The story behind the image
A trip to Salzburg in Austria is rewarding at any time of the year. During the Christmas season, however, you’ll be able to experience the beauty of Salzburg downtown in the best possible ways. Countless tiny lights illuminate the beautifully decorated windows of the small shops – a genuine contrast against the faceless malls and super stores that can be found outside of the city, presenting the same goods as everywhere around the globe.
This shot took me and my camera to the limit. The challenge: I didn’t have a tripod; I didn’t want to go higher than ISO 1000; I didn’t want to use an aperture smaller than f/5.6. Eeek. Shooting at 1/40 sec without visible camera shake and without an image stabilized lens is pretty good on a 20 MP camera (I’d say). The result: An image that transports the cozyness of the decorated street very well. Lovely.
