When we traveled around Italy in 2000, we left out Rome, because we were afraid
of the heavy traffic (which turned out to be a very smart decision!). So we saved this trip for a later time, after all Rome
is called "The Eternal City" for a reason! It took us five years to finally make this trip, and it has been fantastic for us!
Rome and the Roman lifestyle is definitely an experience of its own. For a photographer, however, this city is a true nightmare. You see beautiful places almost anywhere, but everything has been photographed before! Which is no surprise: on average roughly 25,000 tourists arrive in Rome every single day of the year, and I guess that all these guys are taking pictures - a lot of them! And indeed, a search for "photos rome" returns roughly 2.9 million results. So I wondered whether my photo gallery does actually make any sense at all? How could I possibly add value to this? Well, I decided to use the proven layout which focuses on the photos but adds a tiny narrative in the captions. I selected 108 photos from the 440 photos I made during our four day trip. All the highlights are covered here: the Colosseo, the Basilica di San Pietro, the Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain. I sincerly hope that you also like the photos that are "off the beaten track". Enjoy! |
