The Colonna di Marco Aurelio in the light of the fading evening sun.
It had been erected in the 2nd century AD to the honor of Emperor Marco Aurelio,
and tells stories of his two wars. Since the 16th century a statue of the "Holy Paul"
is on top of the column (before it was the Emperor himself).

The Galleria Colonna is situated directly opposite the Piazza Colonna.
It has been reconstructed and re-opened in December 2003, containing a number
of premium shops and restaurants today.

This is the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi), the most popular fountain in Rome.
This place is usually packed with people, so watch out for pick-pockets and tourist
traps! Also, please do not step into the fountain as this will cause immediate reaction
by the local police who is keeping an eye on the fountain.

Detail of the Trevi Fountain. Here the belief was born that trowing a coin into the fountain across your left shoulder (while facing away) will bring you back to Rome again. And if you
throw a second coin, you will be granted a wish. Well, if it would only be that easy... :-)

Another photo of Neptune at the Fontana di Trevi.

A short walk up to the monte Quirinale concludes this walk. Here you will be
able to admire another obelisk, which was moved over from the Mausoleo di Augusto in the
18th century.
