Piazza del Populo Rome

The obelisk in the center of the Piazza del Populo dates back to 1250 BC! It stood in front of the sun temple and was brought to Rome by Emperor Augustus. At first it decortaed the Circus Maximus, but then it was moved to the Piazza in the 16th century. Funny fact: the Romans had so many historical columns that they could distribute them across their city.
