2 Weeks in Namibia - Our Itinerary and Lodges/B&Bs
Understanding the "real price" when booking an accommodation is a bit difficult
if you do the booking by yourself (and not through a tour operator or travel agent).
- Prices in Namibia are often quoted as "per person per night". This does not give a clear indication of the cost
per room for a couple - so we will quote the full real cost for the room per night for two adults.
- Many price quotes do not include 15% VAT or 2% NTB levy. We have, whenever possible, included this in the
prices below; 17% can make a difference. :-)
- Some lodges include a full dinner with their offer. Please see our comments.
- Waiters at restaurants expect a 10% tip as this is often the only income for the staff. This has not been included in the prices for restaurants.
All prices correct as of December 2006.
Prices given in Namibian Dollar (N$). To get a rough Euro amount, a (very rough) indication is to devide the N$ amount by 10.
For current exchange rates or for other currencies (e.g. US$) we recommend to use the FXConverter by Oanda.com.
Please note that we can not guarantee the correctness of any of these prices today.
The estimated driving times are based upon our sedan type car (VW Polo Classic 1.6), not based upon a sturdy 4x4.
Thus, we were significantly slower than other vehicles. Obviously, the driving time depends also on your driving style and
the time you take for stops. But our estimate should provide you a first indication.

N$ 500 double room incl. BF and taxes per night
Dinner buffet N$ 110 per person
The Zanzig.com Rating: ***** (unmissable)
Note: The accommodation was "fair", and the restaurant was "good", so we usually would not issue the
"unmissable" rating for this accommodation. However, the overall experience here at the quiet camp and the ability
to rest in the middle of the Etosha National Park, complete with flood-lit waterhole within
walking distance, this is indeed "unmissable". Thus, we strongly recommend to stay at least one night (better: two or three nights) in
one of the rest camps at the Etosha Park.
Note: Entrance fees to the Etosha National Park are not included in accommodation price. These are N$80 per person per full day,
plus N$ 10 per vehicle once, tax-free. (We paid 4 x N$ 80 + N$ 10 = N$ 330 for our stay in Etosha.)

Two final tips for planning your trip to Namibia
1. The itinerary above is perfectly valid, and we would recommend this to everyone who is planning a two-week trip to Namibia.
We would, however, suggest one change: If you arrive in Windhoek in the morning, just stay for one night there (instead
of two nights) and spend one additional night (three instead of two) directly in the Etosha National Park. Windhoek is a beautiful city,
but all the attractions can be visited on one afternoon and the next morning. Etosha, on the other hand, is a truly unique
once-in-a-lifetime experience.
2. Please read our second page containing more tips for your trip to Namibia. :-)
