Highway 20 close to Bella Coola, Canada (2002)

Main entrance to The Big Hill, separating Bella Coola from the rest of Canada. This is where Highway 20 crests the Coast Range and begins its descent into the Bella Coola Valley. It's also called the Freedom Highway, because the government claimed it was impossible to build the road. However, the locals took things into their own hands, and on 26th September 1953 they completed the road. Find out more about this road at the Bella Coola Valley Museum.
