On your way up, signs will explain the danger of the glacier. This one - "Time Is Not On Your Side" - tells the tragic story of a nine-year-old boy, who fell into a crevasse on July 4th, 2001. At 4:18 pm he fell in a crevasse on the toe of the Athabasca Glacier. At 6:00 pm he is still buried under frozen snow. At 7:47 pm the boy is finally pulled to the surface. The doctors declare him dead at the Seton General Hospital in Jasper at 8:50 pm. It is very dangerous to walk outside the marked area! | |
