In front of the lighthouse you'll find this replica of a figurehead
(called The Mysterious Lady) of unknown origin. Probably it is
from the German ship Elise (sunk 1879) or from the British ship
Dundrennan (sunk 1895). Spooky!

As the lighthouse is really nice, I took three more shots of it. Please enjoy!

The lighthouse is home to an interesting lighthouse museum [sic!] today, and you can go
71 steps to the top. You'll have an excellent panoramic view from there! There's also a
restaurant, which unfortunately closes at 5 pm.

Cape Agulhas lighthouse shortly after sunset.

If you have been thinking about a visit to the village of Elim, you might be
disappointed. While the houses are indeed historic, there is not much to it, and
it takes a bumpy ride over dozens of kilometers of gravel road.
|

The tarred streets of Elim end at the end of the village. Then you are plunged back to...
|

...gravel roads. Though we did not encounter any other car in that whole area, the
government was keen on having a STOP sign. Must have been a joke or something.
