


Before entering the Joshua Tree National Park, we recommend a sidetrip on Highway 247
to Pioneertown. It's a historic town that gives you an impression of how the life of
the pioneers actually was.

Another Joshua Tree. Along with a desert-like surrounding you can see many stunning
rock formations.

But beware of the Snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae). It's got its name for a reason:
snakes like to hide under these plants and may attack hikers coming too close.

A rare sight in September: The lake above Barker Dam actually has water in it!
It had rained heavily about two weeks ago, and the water pooled here.

This is the Colorado River close to Highway 40, at the village Needles. From here,
we recommend a trip towards Bullhead City and Laughlin, and then on the 68 to Kingman.
