For more than a decade my father-in-law had a 27 ft. sailing yacht at the Baltic Sea, and we had the pleasure to join him twice for a week of sailing. This shot from our trip in September 2007 looks more dramatic than it actually was. It was just a beautiful day perfect for letting the ship go, with waves crashing against the ship evry now and then. I had my big camera ready when another wave hit us. The most difficult thing about such action shots is to keep the camera steady. I wanted to show some movement in the splash, so I opted for 1/80 second. I couldn’t use a shorter exposure time because the splash would’ve entirely frozen up, removing a lot of the emotion of the shot.
