British Columbia Blue Hour
Photo © Mark Zanzig

This is a previously unpublished file photo I found while cleaning up the hard drive. It’s an image showing the beautiful coastline of the islands in British Columbia, Canada, during the Blue Hour on a summer evening in 2002. I think it’s an almost magical photo, especially the superb gradient from orange over light pink to dark blue. The clouds add detail and contrasting colors in the sky.

The wing of an airplane at high altitude

During one of my trips to the U.S. I had a seat in Lufthansa Business Class, allowing for this beautiful shot of the left wing of the aircraft at high altitude, probably above the Canadian East Coast. I love flying, I love long distance trips, so I love this shot. :-)

Sailing the Baltic Sea

For more than a decade my father-in-law had a 27 ft. sailing yacht at the Baltic Sea, and we had the pleasure to join him twice for a week of sailing. This shot from our trip in September 2007 looks more dramatic than it actually was. It was just a beautiful day perfect for letting the ship go, with waves crashing against the ship evry now and then. I had my big camera ready when another wave hit us. The most difficult thing about such action shots is to keep the camera steady. I wanted to show some movement in the splash, so I opted for 1/80 second. I couldn’t use a shorter exposure time because the splash would’ve entirely frozen up, removing a lot of the emotion of the shot.
